1 pre-made pie crust (or homemade if preferred) For the Filling:
1 cup sweetened condensed milk 1/2 cup evaporated milk 4 oz German chocolate, chopped 3 large egg yolks 1/4 cup unsalted butter 1 tsp vanilla extract 1 cup shredded sweetened coconut 1 cup chopped pecans Preparation:
Preheat Oven & Prepare Crust: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). If using a store-bought crust, follow package instructions for pre-baking, or just place it in the oven if it’s unbaked.
Melt Chocolate & Prepare Filling: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and chopped German chocolate. Stir occasionally until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth.
Whisk Egg Yolks: In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks. Slowly add a small amount of the hot chocolate mixture to the eggs to temper them, whisking constantly. Gradually pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan, stirring constantly. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the filling thickens.
Finish the Filling: Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla extract until the butter is melted. Fold in the shredded coconut and chopped pecans.
Assemble & Bake: Pour the filling into the pre-baked pie crust. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the filling is set and slightly golden on top.
Cool & Serve: Let the pie cool completely before serving. Optionally, top with whipped cream or additional pecans for garnish.
Enjoy your decadent and delicious German Chocolate Pie!
